UN Women is a key financial partner of the NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGOGCN), supporting our efforts to empower women in Malawi, through the Malawi Electoral Support Project (MESP) basket fund. NGO-GCN is currently implementing the Political Empowerment for Women in Malawi project, which spans 12 months (November 2024 to October 2025).
This project is being carried out in four districts: Balaka, Phalombe, Ntchisi, and Nkhata Bay. The primary goal of the initiative is to strategically enhance and increase the participation of women in the electoral process. NGO-GCN aims to achieve this through the following actions:
- Strengthening the Women’s Movement: Building a strong advocacy platform to ensure accountability to the women’s agenda and promote gender equality in political spaces.
- Empowering Women with Knowledge and Skills: Addressing the barriers that limit women's full participation in politics, elections, and other decision-making processes, while equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to drive Malawi's development agenda.
Through this collaboration, NGO-GCN is advancing women’s rights and fostering a more inclusive political environment for women across Malawi.
